After searching for over a year I finally found the perfect bedroom TV. Although there were a few drawbacks, it was still a good pick. One thing I liked about the company itself is it “remains the first American brand in over a decade to lead in U.S. LCD HDTV sales” according to its website. This is important to me considering the state of our economy. Of course, being Eco Friendly is always a huge plus.
Pros:
Great value. I bought this LCD TV at Costco on sale for about $40 less then the online asking price. The TV is very easy o operate, lightweight and the perfect size for a bedroom. It’s not too big or too small. Although 720p isnt the best resolution, we figured since the TV was only for watching the occasional movie before bed, evening news and playing a video game or two it really wasn’t worth the extra money to get full resolution. The TV has 4 HDMI inputs, 1 VGA, 1 composite/component, and 1 USB. The ambient light sensor is a plus (it can also be turned off if you don’t like it) and the TV also provides a lot of options for setting the picture to your liking.
Cons:
The sound is definitely a cause for annoyance unless you adjust the TV perfectly. If you’re planning on buying this TV make sure you read the reviews online and take the suggestions about how to make the sound better. The problem I found is that there is a drastic difference between the “1″ and “2″ setting. Also, different channels seem to have different sound settings that were unrecognizable before this TV was in the picture. Also, there seems to be about a 2 second delay for sound when turning the TV on or flipping channels. One other drawback is that there is only 1 input for composite/component. So if you’re a gamer, definitely buy an HDMI cable so you don’t have to unplug your cable to plug in your gaming platform.
Overall it was a smart buy and I would recommend it to anyone. If you’re in need of audio visual services and you live in Las Vegas or the surrounding areas, give us a call (702) 982-7822.
(Check the post LCD vs. LED vs. Plasma for guidance to answering most of these questions.)
1. Purpose. What are you planning to use it for? Will you mostly be gaming, are you trying to create a home theater or are you just the average viewer?
2. Lifespan. How long do you want the TV to last? Depending on the answer to #1, the lifespan will vary.
3. Price range. How much are you planning to spend in reference to quality? Your answer to #1 & #2 should coincide with this answer.
4. Size. Measure the space you plan to put the TV in to make sure you get the right size TV to the room. You don’t want the TV to take over the room, or to get the feeling the picture is over (or under) whelming.
5. Viewing angle. Think of all angles you wish to view the TV from. Different TVs have different viewing angles.
6. Quality. Are you the type of person that likes to see every detail, or do you not care?
7. Technology. Do you want to connect the TV via USB, Ethernet or Wi-Fi? Some TVs come ready for all 3.
8. Installation. Are you going to want it mounted by a professional (recommended) or are you going to mount it yourself? Different TVs require different mounts and the size of the TV and mount may change the installation price.
9. Brand. Believe it or not, choosing a brand name is ALWAYS a good idea when it comes to electronics. You get what you pay for, seriously. After gathering information and making a decision on what type of TV you’d like to buy, go online and check sites that offer price comparisons.
10. Wait. Wait for deals, but not too long. This is tricky but important. You don’t want to get too excited and just buy the 1st TV that catches your eye, but you also don’t want to wait until all the good TVs are gone (this happens a few days before Christmas). Try going to places that will match their competitor, that way if you find a good deal but you like the extended warranty (or whatever other deal is being offered) at another store-you have that option. You need proof of the other stores deal though, so if you can, come equipped with coupon or ad cut outs.
